Roller derby is more than a sport. It’s a community, a challenge, and a place where you will discover confidence you didn’t know you have.
We are always looking for new skaters, referees, officials and volunteers to join our growing roller derby family. Whether you’ve never stepped on skates before or you’ve been skating your whole life, we want you to roll with us.

No Experience? Perfect.
Most of our skaters started exactly where you are now.
Most of our skaters started exactly where you are now. You don’t need to know how to skate, own expensive gear, or consider yourself athletic. You just need to show up and be willing to try!
Roller derby has a place for people of different ages, body types, backgrounds, and skill levels. We’ll help you learn at your own pace, including:
- Basic skating skills
- Roller derby rules and strategy
- Safe contact techniques
- Teamwork and communication
- Confidence on and off the track
Don’t have gear? We have loaner skates and protective equipment available to help you get started.
Best of all, our practices are always open to anyone interested in joining. Come meet the team, ask questions and give it a try.
What to Expect at Practice
Trying something new can feel a little intimidating, especially with roller skates involved. But we remember what it was like to be brand new and we’ll help you get comfortable at your own pace. When you come to practice:
- Bring a water bottle and wear comfortable clothes you can move in.
- Don’t have skates or gear? We have equipment you can borrow.
- Go at your own pace. We’ll start with the basics and build your skills from there.
- Expect a friendly welcome. You’ll meet teammates who are happy to answer questions and cheer you on.
Practices are about building skills, learning roller derby and having fun with friends. You don’t need to know how to skate before you join.
Your first on-skates practice is free. And if you’re not ready to put on skates yet, that’s completely fine. Come meet us and see what roller derby is all about.
Where We Skate
Our home rink is Interskate 88 where we practice every Monday from 6:00–8:30 PM.
Our practices are always open to anyone interested in joining!
You don’t need experience, and you don’t need to know how to skate. Stop by meet the team, it’s the easiest way to see what roller derby is all about and find out if HCR is right for you.

We have skates and protective gear you can borrow to get started.
No pressure, no expectations
You don’t have to be athletic, fast, or fearless. You just have to be willing to try. There’s a place for all skills here, on and off the track.
No experience needed
You don’t need to know anything about roller derby, or even how to roller skate. We can teach you everything you need to know.
